Did you know...

... that in the Belgian Parliament, the differentiation between the House of Commons and the Senate, in decor, is that the first has a green carpet, and the other is red. It was my third day in Belgium today, but my first Rotary event. There are fourteen Canadians in Belgium and one goes to my school. Fourteen sounds like a lot... But there are nearly seventy Americans, I think. There were too many to count. The next largest group is the Mexicans, and we have some Argentinians and Brazilians and even someone from Indonesia.
All of us Canadians have red Rotary blazers, and man, do we stand out against the navy of the Americans, the forest green of the Mexicans, and the black of everyone else! You couldn't possibly lose a Canadian exchange student; you'd have to actively try to lose sight of us. The red, bright and obnoxious coats give all of us Canadians a strange sense of kinship. Not only to we share a home country (which means so much here where it's so different) but we have the same brutal red to wear. And you know what else? We all look good in it.
Coca-Cola is not called Coke here, I discovered. It's "Coca" and "Diet Coke" is Coca-Cola Light, or "Coca-Lala". Isn't that hilarious? Try saying it, I dare you. Very French-ly and drag out all the "A"s. Coca-Lala!
I was very excited to try the food today, but the fries (les frites, en francais) we were fed were made in the style of American McDonald's. I was so disappointed.
I'm going to have to go to bed now—I'm SO tired. And I have a big day tomorrow. What's big about is that I'm in Belgium now. And tomorrow, is my fourth day.

  1. You do stand out quite a bit and to be honest, I am jealous considering I am an American and I have a lousy Navy Blue blazer...

It must have been hard to go on such a long tiresome trip on only your 3rd day here in Belgium!

Your writing is great! Keep it up.
